The arrival of photography was perhaps the moment of departure for art. What was already set in motion by painting (to some extent), became a fully realized possibility as art shifted its course from artifice towards archiving. In the course of preserving memories of spaces, senses, times and sometimes the materials themselves, painting, photography, and eventually cinema have come together to become a restoring force at a juncture when human intervention is eroding away every imprint. Sanjoy Mukhopadhyay, Anindya Sengupta, Ronny Sen and Ranu Roychoudhuri will delve into the possibilities and impossibilities of thinking ART AS ARCHIVE in an hour-long session at the 1st Jadavpur University Photo Fest 2017. The session will be moderated by Maharghya Chakraborty.
